BEIJING, February 7 (TMTPOST) — The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games’ mascot Bing Dwen Dwen has gained massive popularity among athletes and Olympic fans.
The mascot has already been sold out in the Beijing Winter Olympic Games’ flagship merchandise store on Tmall. Many were purchased by consumers in overseas markets such as Japan and Australia.
Bing Dwen Dwen is a cute little panda wearing a full-body “shell” made of ice, which appears to resemble a spacesuit. According to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games organizing committee, Bing Dwen Dwen’s design is a tribute to embracing new technologies for a future with infinite possibilities.
The Beijing Winter Olympic Games organizing committee’s spokesperson Zhao Weidong said on February 6 that the organizing committee pays close attention to the supply of Bing Dwen Dwen merchandise and is actively coordinating with the relevant parties to increase the supply in the market.
Yuanlong Yato (002878.SZ), one of 29 authorized manufacturers of Bing Dwen Dwen, has witnessed a surge in its share price due to the soaring popularity of the Olympic mascot. The company’s share price jumped to 20.33 yuan per share on February 7, 2022.
The company said on Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s forum that seven Beijing Winter Olympic Games merchandise series, such as Bing Dwen Dwen stuff animal, figures and Bing Dwen Dwen mystery boxes, are all designed, manufactured and sold by Yuanlong Yato.
Yuanlong Yato has resumed production to manufacture more Bing Dwen Dwen merchandise to satisfy consumer demand, the company said. Most companies in China resume work on February 7 after the Spring Festival.
Founded in 1998, Yuanlong Yato specializes in the production and marketing of cultural products. The company went public on Shenzhen Stock Exchange in June 2017, becoming the first listed A-share company to specialize in merchandise and cultural products.
The production and sales of merchandise of the Winter Olympic Games must receive authorization from the organizing committee. The organizing committee of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games has authorized 29 companies to produce its merchandise and 58 retailers to sell them.
