根据《奥林匹克宪章》（Olympic Charter ）第六条（6 Olympic Games*）规定：“The Olympic Games are competitions between athletes in individual or team events and not between countries. They bring together the athletes selected by their respective NOCs, whose entries have been accepted by the IOC. They compete under the technical direction of the IFs concerned.“

奥运会是运动员之间在个人或团体项目上的比赛，而不是国家之间的比赛 。比赛汇集了由各自的国家奥委会选出的运动员，比赛项目已被国际奥委会接受 。比赛在有关的IFs的技术指导下竞争 。
