BEIJING, January 18 (TMTPOST) — Chinese autonomous truck maker Westwell announced on January 15 at a press release in Shanghai that the company started the mass production of the world’s first smart battery-swap autonomous commercial truck Q-Truck.
Westwell’s Q-Truck fleets have achieved commercial operation in Thailand, The United Arab Emirates and China. The company had helped Hutchison Port Thailand turn the Laem Chabang Port into a smart port where autonomous trucks and manned vehicles work together without physical isolation.
Q-Truck was applied at China COSCO’s Khalifa Port Container Terminal 2 in 2021, making it the first port in the Middle East that is supported by autonomous vehicles. In Xinjiang, the Q-Truck fleet operates under cold temperature at the International Land Port of Urumqi.
Westwell’s Q-Trucks, also known as Qomolo trucks, are self-driving vehicles equipped with binocular AI-enabled cameras, industrial-grade sensors and millimeter-wave radars, which enable ultrahigh-precision positioning and recognition functions.
The trucks are designed for transport in closed areas, including ports, minefields, and logistics parks.
Q-Trucks do not have a cabin for drivers and are completely unmanned. Such designs allow them to hold extra batteries, which allows them to operate for a longer time.
“Besides the new energy sector, Westwell is also increasing its investment in the logistic sector and transport network based on our operation at ports,” Westwell’s CEO and founder Tan Limin said. “We are utilizing artificial intelligence to power our autonomous driving technologies and using technology to empower operation. We can help users create value and increase efficiency, helping them go digital and green.”
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Shanghai, Westwell, or Shanghai Xijing Information Technology Co.,Ltd, is a company that specializes in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies. The company focuses on full-stack AI solutions. Its products are applied in use scenes such as the operation of hospitals, ports and mines, as well as autonomous driving and smart terminals, etc.
