EOS 5 is Canon cameras’ series of the professional digital single-lens reflex camera.Err 5b00 is an error code which appears when the waste ink absorber in your Canon PIXMA iP3600, iP4600, iP4700, MP540, MP550, MP560, MP620, MP630, MP640, MX860, IX6500 and MX870 is full.
The waste ink absorber is used to collect the ink from the head during print head cleaning and printer maintenance. Every time you clean your print heads or use the printer, ink is pumped out of the head and it is collected by the waste ink absorber. Eventually these absorbers will become full, and when that happens, the printer will display Err 5b00.
In order to fix this error, you need to reset the waste ink absorber. You can reset it either manually or by using a software such as WICReset Utility. To reset the waste ink absorber manually, you need to open the printer and locate the pads, which are usually located in the bottom white plastic tray. Clean the pads thoroughly with an absorbent cloth and then attach a vacuum cleaner to the tray and suck out the excess ink.
Once you have cleaned the pads, close the printer and run a deep cleaning cycle. This should reset the waste ink absorber and the Err 5b00 error should be gone. If this does not work, then you will have to replace the pads with new ones, which can be easily purchased online.
When replacing the pads, make sure you follow the instructions carefully and ensure that you do not overfill the pads. If you do overfill the pads, then you run the risk of overflowing the waste ink absorber and damaging the printer.
