BEIJING, May 20 (TMTPOST) — Arm China and Horizon Robotics announced on Friday that they have formed a strategic partnership on high-performance autonomous driving chips and smart car ecosystem.
The two companies will combine Arm China’s high-performance computing platform and Arm IP technology with Horizon Robotics’ autonomous driving and smart car chip capabilities to drive the development of smart car technologies.
Given the rising demand for high-performance computing in the chips for smart vehicles industry, Arm China has integrated NPU, SPU, ISP and VPU, etc. with its ARM IP technology to assist Chinese vehicle chip makers in the research and development of artificial intelligence technology, image processing, information security and smart driving platform.
“Smart cars are a important and strategic development direction for China’s car industry, which concerns core technologies,” Liu Renchen, Co-CEO of Arm China stated. “Arm China is dedicated to revolutionizing computing from the perspective of technology and ecosystem and empowering the car industry in China to make innovations.”
Horizon Robotics is the first chip maker in China to mass produce AI chips for vehicles. The company has already shipped out over one million of its Journey series chips, which are installed on many mainstream carmakers’ popular car models.
“Smart cars’ chips are like digital engines. They play a critical role in the revolution of smart cars,” Yu Kai, chief scientist at Horizon Robotics said. “The two companies will work together on building a collaborative and open innovation ecosystem based on smart car chips and help drive the development of smart cars.”
Founded in 2015, Horizon Robotics focuses on artificial intelligence computing for smart mobility. The company is dedicated to providing integrated and open embedded Artificial Intelligence solutions in the smart mobility market with a focus on performance-cost-power optimization. It has raised US$2.2 billion in funding, according to information on Crunchbase.
