【English|Amassador Qin Gang: Competition Should not Become Key Theme of China-US Relationship】”Competition should not become the mainstream and the key theme of the China-U.S. Relationship, even it does exist,” Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang commented on Blinken’s remarks, through which, the senior official, in particular, called on defeating China in competitions.
China and the United States share significant common interests and common responsibilities, and only “win-win cooperation”, the fundamental of our bilateral relationships, can bring benefit to people of the two countries as well as the whole world, Qin said at the Global Economic Summit in Indiana.
Qin warned that the U.S. side can only intensify tensions and trigger confrontations if they define the Sino-U.S. relations as the competition, worse yet, the completion, alleged by the U.S., is in essence a kind of “malicious confrontation”, which is set to have “dangerous consequences”.
The tariff war, launched by the Trump administration based on the so-called Section 301 investigation in 2017, has so far caused 1.7 trillion US dollars’ market value losses of American companies and almost 250,000 jobs lost in the U.S., Qin reiterated the data he mentioned in an interview with Forbes earlier this month. Qin said Beijing stayed in communication with Washington at all levels. Everyone wants to see good news as the Biden administrtion is reviewing whether to extend the first batch of tariffs imposed on Chinese goods, which is due on July 5, but if the U.S. side chooses to renew these tariffs, China would certainly fight to the end, Qin cautioned.
China deplores and rejects Secretary Blinken’s speech for its “sole purpose is to contain and suppress China’s development and maintain the US hegemony”, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, said at Friday’s regular press conference. According to Wang, the speech spread disinformation, play up the so-called “China threat”, interfere in China’s internal affairs and smear China’s domestic and foreign policy. He urged the U.S. to make the right choices bearing in mind the common interests of people in both countries and the world.
Blinken said on Thursday that the U.S. is “not looking for conflict or a new Cold War”, however, his speech sounded more like declaration of all-out strategic competition or war against China, noted Hua Chunying, the Assistant Minister of the Foreign Ministry, through one of her tweets on Friday. If the U.S. really doesn’t seek to block China from growing its economy, as Blinken said ,“ why hasn’t the U.S. removed the tariffs? Why spare no efforts to suppress Chinese high-tech firms?” Hua’s another tweet questioned.
