属格-'s与of短语

爱拼 1.表人，多用属格； 表物，多用of短语。

2.简短n，多用属格；带有后置定语的n多用或只能用of短语。
3.表示住宅、店铺、学校、教堂等处所时，只能用属格，不能用of短语
I'm going to the barber's.
我要去理发店。
I'm graduated from St. John's.
我从圣约翰大学毕业了。
4.表逻辑主语时，属格更常用。
表逻辑宾语时，of短语更常用。
the boy's application（不能说theapplication of the boy）
a statement of the facts（不能说the facts' statement）
5.表名词化的形容词或分词所有，不能用属格，只能用of 短语。
ambition of the young
the demands of the wounded
6.表同位、部分、描绘等意义时，不能用属格，只能用of短语。
the city of New York（New York City）
the front of the house（the front part of the house）
a woman of courage（a courageous woman）
7.表示类别或度量时，只能用属格，不能用of短语。

five years' schooling（five years of schooling不能说schooling of five years）
8.有些习语本身习惯用属格，不用of 短语
at one's wit's end智穷力竭，不知所措
for pity's sake请发发慈悲
