总的来说 ， 这项研究结果表明 ， 在长期控制2型糖尿病方面 ， 代谢手术比常规医学和生活方式干预更有效 。
手术使2型糖尿病得到持久缓解 ， 甚至有37.5%的患者在整个10年的研究期间都保持了非糖尿病的血糖浓度 ， 而不需要服用糖尿病药物 ， 这是非常了不起的成就 。
此外 ， 与常规医学治疗相比 ， 手术还能带来HbA1c浓度从基线上有更大的降低 ， 以及降低冠心病风险 ， 改善肾功能 ， 提高QOL ， 减少药物使用 ， 降低糖尿病相关并发症的发生率等种种好处 。当然 ， 本研究的结果还需要在更大的临床研究中验证 。
以上数据再次证明：2型糖尿病是一种潜在的可治愈性疾病的假设[10] 。研究人员也在文章末尾呼吁临床医生在治疗肥胖和2型糖尿病患者时应适当考虑代谢手术 。
